Overview


The Human Resources Generalist manages the day-to-day operations of the HR Department and provides advice, assistance and follow-up on company policies and procedures and coordinates the resolution of lower level policy-related and procedural issues and inquiries. Position responsibilities are in the following functional areas: HR office management, employee relations, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), HR policy administration, benefit administration, and recruiting & selection.

Responsibilities

HR Office Management

• Manages the daily transactions of the Human Resources office including ensuring proper record-keeping and file management processes.
• Provides direction and leadership to the HR Assistant.
• Responsible for vendor management such as uniforms, vending machines, etc.
• Establishes and maintains an accurate and employee friendly environment.
• Assists HR Manager with administration of performance management process for non-exempt employees, by tracking completion and facilitating the process.
• Champions the employee attendance policy by tracking, reporting, and counseling employees accordingly.
• Serves as backup for HR Manager when necessary.

 

Employee Relations

• Manages and resolves low-to-mid-level employee relation investigations and issues and/or escalates when necessary.

• Supports employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation through various methods including active floor time, etc.
• Leads Employee Engagement Teams that support social, networking, and technical opportunities in the plant.
• Facilitates coordination of all plant employee relation events and recognition programs such as Company Picnic, Christmas party, Employee of the Month/Quarter, Leadership Dinner, etc.
• Champions the plant Wellness Program including leading an interactive and progressive team, facilitating communication, preparing the annual proposal including estimated expenses, and maintaining the budget.


Recruiting and Selection

• Assists HR Manager with recruiting efforts to ensure proper non-exempt staffing levels within the plant, including development of employment advertisements and/or working with third-party staffing agencies as needed.
• Schedules on-site panel interviews with candidates and supervisors and makes job offers for non-exempt positions.
• Coordinates completion of all recruitment/new hire processes such as scheduling physicals, background checks, and reference checks.
• Assists with coordination and facilitation of orientation process for new employees.
• Maintains iCIMS on-line application system, including completion of quarterly standard deviation reporting and sending e-mail communications to candidates.
• Manages coordination of internal job transfer posting and selection process.

 

Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)

• Oversees and maintains HRIS system and is site subject matter expert on processes related to SAP, Kronos Timekeeping, and iCIMs recruiting system.
• Liaison and trainer for employees in regards to questions related to H2R, Employee Self-Service (MyLeprino), and time clock.
• Prepares, analyzes, and distributes reports that are necessary to carry out the functions of the department.
• Supports, operates and has a thorough understanding of the SAP system, owning SAP-related processes in the plant.
HR Policy Administration • Supports the development and implementation of plant-level Human Resources policies and practices and helps to manage day-to-day execution of plant- and corporate-level policies and strategies to ensure consistent application.
• Communicates and shares Human Resources policies, procedures, programs and laws when needed.
• Provides advice, assistance and follow-up on company policies, procedures, and documentation.
• Assists with coordinating compliance and regulatory training for all employees such as, Harassment Prevention, Affirmative Action, etc.
Benefits Administration

• Provides day-to-day benefits administration services. Assists employees with claim issue resolution.
• Coordinates and conducts benefits orientation and other benefits training, including the annual benefits open enrollment process.
• Facilitates, monitors, and maintains plant Leave of Absence and FMLA program, including distribution of paperwork, tracking status and time along with progress of claims, and ensuring proper documentation is received.
• Assists HR Manager with completion of Reasonable Accommodation Process for non-exempt employees.
• Administers the Educational Reimbursement program for the plant by promoting its usage, reviewing all requests for policy compliance, processing disbursements to employees, and tracking and reporting program results.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or similar program required.
• Minimum three plus years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources positions, with a substantial portion of it in a manufacturing operation.
• Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations preferred.
• Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM certification preferred.
• Familiar with industrial operations, preferably dairy or food manufacturing.
• Technically sound in Human Resources fundamentals and best practices and the application of them in manufacturing operations.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities/Competencies:
• General knowledge of state and federal employment laws and practices.
• Familiar with Human Resources fundamentals and best practices and the application of them in manufacturing operations.
• Working knowledge of benefits and compensation programs.
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite programs.
• Familiar with industrial operations, preferably dairy or food manufacturing.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
• Superior negotiating and problem resolution skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop Human Resources staff members.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Creative thinker with a process improvement mindset.

 

Working Relationships:
The Human Resources Generalist reports directly to the Human Resources Manager. The Human Resources Assistant reports to the HR Generalist. The HR Generalist has a strong peer-based relationship with other functional department managers and supervisors, with occasional contact with corporate human resources staff, regulatory agencies and training sources. The HR Generalist serves as the back-up for the Human Resources Manager in his/her absence.
