Overview

POSITION PURPOSE

The position requires the incumbent to feed and load cheese, fold bags, rework and re-dice, and perform general housekeeping duties.

NATURE AND SCOPE

The position reports to the Processing Supervisor. The Processing Line Attendant must be able to read/write and perform basic mathematical functions in order to understand standard operating procedures, good manufacturing practices and safety policies. The job holder needs to identify quality concerns and keep the supervisor/foreperson informed of any issues.

 

The Processing Line Attendant must be capable of effectively communicating information vital to the efficient processing of product in the Processing Department. Must display recognition of quality control problems such as soft cheese, extraneous, and proper blend considerations. The Processing Line Attendant stands/walks throughout the shift. The position requires lifting weights up to 45 pounds throughout the day, bulk load same day dice (S.D.D.) if necessary, unwrap plastic from cheese blocks, and dump tubs of cheese into the rework auger.

 

Responsibilities

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • 5% Inspect String cheese for softness and extraneous.

 

  • 5% Pack cheese.

 

  • 10% Feed ribbon stacks of cheese onto the conveyor.

 

  • 10% Blend cheese as required.

 

  • 10% Maintain good housekeeping at all times, including cleaning empty tubs and weighing scrap.

 

  • 10% Observe proper safety policies and procedures at all times.

 

  • 5% Add slip sheets/inter-leaver sheets in-between layers of cheese in tote.

 

  • 5% Fold bags into boxes so none is exposed when the box is closed.

 

  • 5% Monitor quality of boxes before running through the tape machine.

 

  • 5% Dimensions operator, perform the duties per established SOP’s.

 

  • 5% Sealer operator, perform the duties per established SOP’s.

 

  • 5% Scale operator, perform the duties per established SOP’s.

 

  • 5% Box maker, perform the duties per established SOP’s.

 

GENERAL OUTLINE OF DUTIES (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following outline of duties satisfactorily. This is only a sampling of responsibility as other duties will be assigned.)

 

  • Take temperature readings from cheese
  • Enter testing results into MES
  • Take tote samples
  • Operate the sealer machine
  • Complete scale weight checks
  • Operate the labeler machine
  • Operate the stretch wrapper
  • Assemble bulk totes
  • Inspect cheese
  • Blend different cheeses
  • Know what is recycled and what is not and where it goes. Operate the trash compactor
  • Relieve employees for break

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

General Experience/Educational Background

Minimum

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Able to read and write and speak English
  • Demonstrated ability to complete work assignments with high degree of accuracy
  • Able to work any and all shifts

 

Preferred

  • Prior food industry experience
  • 6 months prior manufacturing experience

 

 

Language and Technical Skills

  • Proficient computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office products
  • Familiarity or ability to learn SAP, or similar integrated manufacturing system

 

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to deal with and understand different cultures

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This position will be exposed to working in a wet/slippery environment with loud noise in varying degrees of temperature
  • Specific vision may be required for this position, including close vision, distance vision, color and depth perception, and the ability to read computer screens for extended time periods
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds
  • Frequent walking and standing
  • Climb up and down stairs/ladders, bending and reaching required
