Overview

The Technical Whey and Milk Receiving Lead is responsible to ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and safe work practices are followed by all department employees in the efficient operation and production of quality product throughout the Production Department, specifically in the designated areas of whey and milk receiving.  The Technical Whey and Milk Receiving Lead position is a working foreperson and must be capable of disassembly, assembling and making minor adjustments to all whey and milk receiving production equipment including but not limited to: Milk Receiving, Clarifier, Separator, Mixer Liquid Separator, Cream HTST, Whey HTST, Evaporator and Crystallizer. Additionally, the Technical Whey and Milk Receiving Lead is responsible for the coordination, execution, and administration of the cream and milk schedule, inventories, and the preventative maintenance schedule for all equipment in the whey and milk receiving areas.

 

 

Responsibilities

Production Operations:

  • Manage day-to-day operation of the whey and milk receiving operation as requested by the Production Manager, Production Senior Supervisor, and/or Production Supervisor, as needed, including helping with daily production labor assignments, leading pre-shift meetings, and completing  whey and milk receiving Shift Summary Reports for the Production Manager, etc.
  • Interpret production related data and make production decisions based on the data.
  • Respond to any equipment or operation failures and troubleshoot equipment problems and follow up to ensure efficient operation.
  • Partner with Supervisors in extraneous events, utilize Maximo to recommend repair or replacement, and be able to inspect equipment for potential extraneous.
  • Communicate effectively with other operators, department management, and representatives from other departments as it relates to production operations.
  • Enforce GMP and safety policies as needed.
  • Verify accuracy of data being captured in the MES system and make adjustments to plant operations accordingly.
  • Monitor production process to meet required customer and regulatory specifications.
  • Enter Quality Alerts as required.
  • Issue maintenance work orders as needed.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
  • Cover for vacant operator positions per Union requirements.
  • Any additional duties as assigned.

Training:

  • Assist in coordinating whey and milk receiving training in relation to mandatory job skill requirements outlined in the production division technical training guidelines.
  • Assist in training employees regarding PSOPs, GMPs, proper sanitation, safe work practices, good housekeeping, etc. and report when these policies and practices throughout the department are not being followed.

Process Management:

  • Assists production manager with cream and condensed schedules.
  • Conducts and partners with production manager on milk inventories.
  • Participates in documentation audits.

Preventative Maintenance:

  • Helps to analyze PM schedule and equipment up keep.
  • Tracks feedback from root cause analysis and problem-solving of issues to assist with development of equipment.
  • Participates in down day planning meeting and partners with maintenance team to identify department priorities.

Employee Relations:

  • Forward employees concerns and issues to Production Supervisor, Production Senior Supervisor, or Production Manager as needed.
  • Establish and maintain an employee friendly environment.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

 

  • Must be able to work flexible schedule in order to support 24/7 operation, including weekends, holidays, and off-shifts.
  • Minimum of three years of prior work experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, dairy or food manufacturing a plus.
  • Prior experience of whey and milk processes, systems, and technology.
  • Must be able to read and write and perform basic mathematical functions.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

 

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Action oriented and the capacity to drive for results.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead others effectively, including training, coaching, and developing others.
  • Familiarity or ability to learn SAP, MES, or similar integrated manufacturing system.
  • Ability to influence and communicate upward, laterally, and downward without any direct line authority.
  • Capacity to demonstrate composure, display compassion, and the ability to resolve conflict at the shop floor level.
