Overview

The Maintenance Group Leader is responsible to ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and safe work practices are followed by all department employees in the efficient operation and production of quality product throughout the Maintenance Department. The Maintenance Group Leader position is a working foreperson and must be capable of disassembly, assembling and repairing all production equipment. The position is also responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining all plant equipment, reducing downtime, and ensuring timely delivery of products to customers. They also are required to perform all duties as assigned.

 

The Maintenance Group Lead reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor, with strong direct working relationships with Maintance Manager, and other functional department managers and supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operation of the floor as requested by the Maintenance Supervisor as needed, including helping with daily maintenance labor assignments, leading pre-shift meetings, and completing Shift Summary Reports for Maintenance Manager, etc.
  • Interpret maintenance related data and make maintenance decisions based on the data.
  • Respond to any equipment or operation failures and troubleshoot equipment problems and follow up to ensure efficient operation.
  • Partner with Supervisors in maintenance events, utilize Maximo to recommend repair or replacement, and be able to inspect equipment for potential maintenance repairs.
  • Communicate effectively with other maintenance team members, operators, department management, and representatives from other departments as it relates to maintenance and production operations.
  • Enforce GMP and safety policies as needed.
  • Complete maintenance work orders as needed.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
  • Perform preventative repairs on plant equipment.
  • Perform emergency repairs on plant equipment.
  • Start and stop plant utility equipment.
  • Assist in coordinating maintenance training in relation to maintenance department functions.
  • Assist in training employees regarding Maintenance SOPs, GMPs, proper sanitation, safe work practices, good housekeeping, etc. and report when these policies and practices throughout the department are not being followed.
  • Forward employees concerns and issues to Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager as needed.
  • Establish and maintain an employee friendly environment.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Must be able to work flexible schedule in order to support 24/7 operation, including weekends,
    holidays, and off-shifts.
  • At least two years of prior experience in a manufacturing environment or 1 year experience with
    a related technical certificate or degree.
  • Prior experience repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining equipment.
  • Prior experience with blueprint and schematic readings.

Preferred:

  • Prior dairy or food manufacturing is a plus.
  • Prior experience with mechatronics (i.e.; mechanical and eletrical) is a plus.
  • Prior experience with plumbing, pneumatics, compressed air, ammonia/refrigeration, and boilers is a plus.
  • Prior experience or practical knowledge of PLCs and Ladder Logic, electrical including 3-phase, controls and instrumentation, and HVAC is a plus.

  • Demonstrate the ability to lead others effectively, including training, coaching, and developing others.
  • Ability to influence and communicate upward, laterally, and downward without any direct line authority.
  • Familiarity or ability to learn a CMMS maintenance system or a similar system.
  • Proficient computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office products.
  • Capacity to demonstrate composure, display compassion, and the ability to resolve conflict at the shop floor level.
  • Self directed and able to work with minimal supervision.
